MySpace kicked out 90,000 sex offenders from their networking Web site. Imagine that. Just when we thought we had this cool place to go meet people from everywhere, we discover that the real person lurking behind the cute picture could really be a pedophile. Rival online networking giant, Facebook, also has had to scrutinize their members, and they too ejected criminals from their membership rolls. At a time when we are spending more time online, and searching for relationships in ever increasingly sketchy ways, it will take more diligence on the part of the subscriber to think before you commit. As always, it takes time to build relationships. Getting to know someone online will never replace the honest conversations that occur in more direct ways—as in phone calls, and personal encounters. It is clearly advised, however, that one remain highly suspicious of quick romantic flings—one just never knows for sure who will be the one meeting you. Far better to take plenty of time to make certain the person you think you are becoming friends with, is really who they say they are.Just a word to the wise.
